Northwest wrestler Sean McCarty (31-0 season) had a remarkable year as he reached the 130 lbs. State Finals, but he lost in OT to Urbana's Peter Tatanish 8-6

Qunice Orchard's (Wrestlers in Red & Black) Dake Williams (22-6 season) 215 lbs. on the left and Terrance Stephans (26-0 season) 285 lbs. on the right lost in the State Final match. Williams lost to Damascus' Josh Frederick 8-7 and Stephans lost to Oxen Hill's Nigel Cross 2-1. Williams and Stephans, both juniors, anchored the Cougars' football State Championship offensive line this season.
In other wrestling action, Sherwood junior Steven Gamble (33-0 season) finished 2nd in the 152 lbs. class, losing to Bel Air's Matt Cross 4-1 while Paint Branch's Danny Lethbridge (31-5 season) lost in the 112 lbs. finals to Urbana's Adam Krop by pin.
Great job MCPS wrestlers!

Last year was supposed to be B-CC's State Title season! With seniors Maurice Pearson (6'9 Ohio U) and Jordan Herrera (6'4) joining all-everything junior forward Austin Cooley (6'4), the Barons finished 19-3 and made a trip to the Comcast Center. The Barons lost in the Semi's and and no one was more dissappointed then Cooley. He returned for his senior season determined to finish what the Barons failed to achieve a year ago, a State Championship. Earlier this season, Cooley was flustered as the team struggled. So much so, he punched a wall during a game against Damascus and broke his hand. After missing the better part of the regular season, Cooley came back stronger and more determined then ever and he has the Barons are surging at the right time. B-CC (18-7) is back at the Comcast Center, but this time as an underdog. They have suffered more losses then the other three teams - Largo (21-4), Long Reach (24-2) and Lake Clifton (25-1) - combined. However, B-CC's record is misleading as most of those losses came with Cooley out injured. Can Cooley get the Barons over the hump this year? No matter what happens this week, Cooley has proven he is a clear-cut Division I prospect.

MDVaristy.com released their Top 25 (actually 25-11 with the top 10 to be released by early April) Maryland football programs in the 21st century and 4 MOCO teams have been named so far. The formula used to comprise the list involved State Titles, PO Records, Season Win/Loss Record and a few other items.

Seneca Valley coach Fred Kim and Northwest coach Andrew Fields oversee two of Maryland's most successful football programs yet the two rival schools are less than a mile apart.
MOCO teams listed and their ranking:
NO. #22 - Northwest (Coach Andrew Fields)
NO. #16 - Gaithersburg (Coach Kreg Kephart)
NO. #14 - Quince Orchard (Coach Dave Mencarini)
NO. #13 - Seneca Valley (Coach Fred Kim)
It is expected Damascus will be named as one of the top 5 teams once the Top 10 teams have been released.

This young and dynamic Eagles guard averaged 17.4 ppg. as a freshman and continued to build on her brief but successful career as a sophomore. Averaging 18.0 ppg. in 2007-08, Cunningham was the leader of a Seneca Valley girls’ team that improved their win total by 4 games from the previous season. As strong of leader as she is on the court, she is just as influencing off the court. Respected by teammates and classmates alike, Cunningham is all CHARACTER! Blessed with an uncanny court awareness and basketball savvy, Cunningham has a way of increasing the level of play from her teammates. A deadly shooter when left open, she’s just as crafty maneuvering past defenders if they play her tight. Over the next two seasons Cunningham will need to get physically stronger and improve her foot speed to play at the next level.

With nearly a flawless delivery and pin-point precision Gaithersburg Trojan pitcher Kevin Brady emerged on the national scene as one of the top junior pitching prospects. Finishing the 2007 season with perfect 9-0 record and a .084 ERA, the All-Met performer opened eyes all over the country. Hurling three no-hitters and a perfect game during the 2007 campaign Brady was certainly the best pitcher in Montgomery County and perhaps the state. Now a senior at Gaithersburg and committed to attend Clemson in 2009, if Brady follows up his 2007 spectacular season with a comparable 2008, it is very likely he’ll see his named called very early in the MLB draft this summer. Brady is a solid student and has a down-to-earth persona, two character qualities that play a role in his success as a pitcher. Not only can he pitch, Brady hit .438 for the Trojans batting from the clean-up spot.
